Information About Tambour Door Surface Mounted U-Shape Spirals & Track
The Surface Mounted U-Shape Spirals & Track system is a versatile solution for vertical or horizontal sliding tambour doors. Below is a detailed explanation to guide you through its features, installation, and measurement process.
Overview of the U-Shape Spirals & Track System
- Primary Use:
- Typically used for vertical slide-open doors, allowing the door to slide up into a compact space at the top of a unit or cabinet. This is ideal if shelves are present inside the cabinet.
- It can also be used for horizontal slide-open doors, where the door slides into a compact area within the side wall space. However, this is less common as the surface-mounted straight track remains raised (12mm high) at the base of the unit.
- Fixing and Alignment:
- The track and spirals are easy to fix using pre-drilled holes for screws.
- Ensure spirals are parallel and level for smooth and even sliding.
- Safety Tip:
- The system relies on gravity to hold the door within the spirals. For added safety, some customers install a latch behind the door to prevent it from accidentally falling closed if knocked.
Spiral Options
The system includes four different U-Shape Spiral types, depending on the size of the door. You can request a specific spiral size in the order notes. Here are the options:
Li800:
- Holds up to 800mm of door.
- Depth required: 410mm
- Spiral width: 70mm
Li1400:
- Holds up to 1400mm of door.
- Depth required: 360mm
- Spiral width: 110mm
Li1600:
- Holds up to 1600mm of door.
- Depth required: 412mm
- Spiral width: 110mm

How to Measure for This Track System
Vertical Slide:
- Measure the inside width of your cabinet/unit from side wall to side wall.
- Check the width at three heights to ensure consistency (must not differ by more than 5mm).
- Measure the depth of the cabinet from the front edge to the rear to ensure the spirals fit and can hold the sliding door.
Horizontal Slide:
- Measure the height of the doorway or unit from the floor/base to where you plan to fix the top spiral and track.
- Check the height at three points to ensure consistency (must not differ by more than 5mm).
- Ensure there’s enough depth in the side wall space to accommodate the door when fully opened.
Additional Notes
- Pre-Cut Options:
- We cut your door to include the track in your measurements, minimising the need for adjustments.
- To further reduce the need for cutting, reduce your measurement by 1-2mm. The track channel is 10mm deep, giving you some flexibility.
- Upgrade Option:
- This track system is an upgrade to the standard track provided in TAMdoûr kits and can be selected when ordering your door.
